2023 - A New Year, A New Leaf

1/3/2023

Happy New Year! What a year it was! Working for so many people has been such a pleasure!

This past year, especially the spring and fall of 2022, my clients have been requesting gutter guards - and rightly so here in the forest city.

Gutter guards, some made by Peak and can be found at Home Depot , are the perfect solution for keeping unwanted leaves, excessive pine needles and other flying debris out of your eaves troughs.

This allows the rain and water from melted ice and snow to freely move along your eaves troughs along down to your downspouts and safely away from the foundation of your home.

Peak gutter guards are a far more cost effective way to keep out debris than recently advertised gutter systems. They may seem pricey at first, but will save you countless climbs up high ladders, spending hours cleaning your troughs and keep your foundation from getting wet below
That can create cracks in your homes' basement walls leading to a host of problems including serious cracks caused by freezing and thawing water buildup and flooding - now that's costly!

There are other brands of gutter guards out there, but I have been installing Peak brand for years and have not heard one solitary complaint.

It's always a good idea to have your handyman take a look at your installed gutters every 3-5 years to make sure all is well.

Preventative maintenance can go a long way!

Cheers to 2023!

Your Handyman,
Blair

Happy New Year

I would imagine most of us are glad to see the end of 2020. I for one could not wait and look forward to life to return back to normal.

After being shut down in March, April and May of this past year, June & the rest of the year were full steam ahead.
As a Sole Proprietor I had to turn some work away which is not always easy.

Now that a new year is upon us our Provincial Government has put the brakes on because of Covid-19 that has, once again, shut my Handyman business down - hopefully for only a short while.

I whole-heartedly understand the need for a stay at home order and I agree with it fully. It only makes logical sense that this is how we are going to save lives and beat this nasty virus.

It's a sad state of affairs for many of us to say the least...many out of work, many suffering from loneliness, depression, isolation, worry, fear, stress and anger.

As hard as it may sound we need to hold on tight and know that good things are coming our way.

There isn't really much more to say in this blog except that I feel for the many who are suffering and I am so very grateful to front line workers, Doctors, Paramedics, Teachers and everyone else who is helping make a difference in these crazy times we are living.

Keep the faith & stay safe.

Coping With The Covid-19 Crisis

5/14/2020

This has not been the least bit easy - for anyone. The deaths, the disease, the destruction.
We have all felt this in one form or another. I feel for the people and the families that have been largely affected by this horrible virus.

I personally want to thank the thousands of men and women in the health care industry and EMS services, Police and Fire Fighters for risking their lives each and every day for us.
There are so many people to thank - unconditionally.
The grocery store clerks, cashiers and stock people for keeping the food on our tables, the Farmers for all they do to keep the food distribution going, the Cleaners who have been diligent in making sure our community places are safe, the people who wear masks and gloves and keep their distance in helping us all flatten the curve. Thank you all.

As a Contractor I have had to close down my business, albeit temporarily, but it has not been easy either. I much rather prefer to work and be an active and contributing member in my community.
Wilson's Handyman Services have been in business for 6 years as of April 30th of this challenging year 2020 and we hope to carry on.

The photos/video above illustrate my last job before closing down. I was in my glory because I was helping someone with their house repair and painting needs and I was helping myself in return.
Just working gives me a good feeling that I have put in an honest days work, that I have been productive and that I have begun another new relationship with a client.
Our work is very gratifying indeed, but it takes two to make it all come together.

After all this COVID-19 stuff is over I hope we will never take things for granted again and that we will take something positive from all the mayhem and treat one another with more respect, and dignity and carry on with a humble heart.

As I mentioned there has been a lot of death and destruction in this world because of this virus and it has created a lot of anxiety, stress, anger, depression, loneliness and absolutely crazy driving in our great city of London, Ontario!

When they say "We are All In This Together" please think about what this means.

Keep the faith. Stay positive. Stay healthy. Stay safe.

Yours in service,
Blair

...and What A Year It Was!

I think the latter part of 2018 just flew by! Don't You?
As a matter of fact I think time has a way of going by considerably faster the older we get, but I will just speak for myself and my business.

There is plenty to get excited about for Wilson's Handyman Services!

We're coming up to celebrating 5 years in business in April 2019! Hooray!!

I've met some very interesting people as an Owner of a business and self-proclaimed Handyman.

There have been plenty of kind and patient people whom of which many continue to be my repeat clients!

This is such gratifying work when a client calls me back to do other work for them - that speaks volumes to me and makes me proud I am able to help others around their homes.
Getting the call from a new potential client is exciting as well as it gives me an opportunity to meet someone else who needs my help.

Trust has been a huge player this past year. What I mean is many people I meet trust me in their homes and trust that I stand behind my work. Some will just give me their keys to their home and say 'call me when you're finished or if you have any questions" or I will leave you a cheque behind the such and such. I can't tell you how that makes me feel except...well...great!

Yes, 2018 certainly flew by. I believe this has been one of my busiest times - especially with interior painting!

I have completed apartment units, bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, bathrooms, basement floors, closets, trim, baseboards, window casings, pool sheds and more!
One thing for sure is I've gotten to know a few really good paint brands, brushes and rollers since starting my handyman business nearly 5 years ago.

I have learned using a good brush, a good paint and proper preparation goes a long way to a really nice looking finished performance. Patience and perseverance pays off!

Though it hasn't been all painting, believe me. There have been plenty of drywall repairs and installations and plumbing fixes and everything in between that has kept me busy!

Is this where I insert " I'm sorry I have not blogged in awhile" comes in? Well, I'm blogging now hoping you like what you read. After all it's straight from the heart.

I am very grateful to be where I am today in my business. Perhaps it will lead to other opportunities? I don't know, but one thing is for sure, I hope it continues to thrive and I hope to meet more of you in the London, Ontario and surrounding areas. Who knows? Perhaps I can be of assistance ; )

You already know where to find me.

In the interim please watch my promo for a little more information about Wilson's Handyman Services. Oh..and yes...the guy speaking in the promo is in fact me. Happy listening!

Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon!

Celebrating 4 Years In Business! Thank You!

It's certainly hard to believe it has already been 4 years since starting Wilson's Handyman Services!

It almost seems like yesterday I was sitting in a classroom setting learning about all the aspects of starting a new business, yet; here I am and it's all thanks to people like you who have had confidence in my handyman abilities.

I've always told people "I'm no pro, but I do take pride in my work, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I know how to do a lot of things, but I'm just a Handyman'.

Clients seem to appreciate that and that works for me too.

I question myself sometimes and wonder why I am 21 feet up in the air against the side of a house replacing a bathroom exhaust vent or crawling around inside an attic at 140 degrees in the dead of the heat installing and insulating rigid pipe to ensure proper ventilation for my client's home. The answer, however, comes clearly.
I enjoy doing what I do, I am needed, appreciated and I am paid to do these things.

When I launched my business and registered with the government and retained my Master Business Licence in April of 2014, I wondered where I would be down the road. There were a slew of questions on my mind. Questions like: Would I make it? Will there be enough work for me? Will I be able to understand the logistics of running a business? Understanding taxation with the Government? ...and the list goes on.

Yet here I am celebrating 4 years in business as a Sole Proprietor! pretty exciting, but not so much in the dead of winter when we are all hibernating. Business is very slow - like most businesses in the winter time.

Now that spring is in full swing, my cell phone has begun to ring once again.
I would not change this for anything. Sure, self employment has some down falls, but doesn't everything?

I just wanted to share a few words to thank my customers for believing in me, for having patience and understanding and for being so kind.

Thank you!

                                                 Swing Into Spring!

Finally! Spring has arrived - and not a day too soon for this Handyman!

I love spring for many reasons: The days grow longer, the weather gets warmer, the air gets fresher and the plants get brighter and the grass greener. It's such a vibrant time of year after hibernating from old man winter.

The spring is also important to me because it marks the beginning of another year in business - and it's all because of you! So thank you!

While we are on the subject of spring this is one of the best times of the year to start taking a thorough look around your home - inside and out - for peeling paint, a leaky faucet, cold drafts that may be present around your doors, windows and baseboards, worn exterior caulking, clogged eaves troughs and downspouts other general household repairs that you just haven't had the time to get done.

Now that you have compiled a to-do list, pick up the phone and call Wilson's Handyman Services!

As the beginning of my fourth year in business approaches, I offer the same reliable, friendly and affordable services! I also continue to offer free, no obligation, in-home estimates.

You can reach me by phone at 226-234-9291 or email blair@wilsonshandymanservices,ca

I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks for reading and...Happy Spring 2017!

Springing Right Into Summer!

7/1/2016

Picture

It certainly didn't take long for Summer to arrive - at least not for Wilson's Handyman Services!

Once we got through that cold first week of April, the sun came out, the weather got warmer; and the phone rang off the hook! - no complaints! In fact we are very grateful for the work we have done so far this year.

One particular customer I would like to point out has kept me busier than a one armed paper hanger with an itch!

Thank you!

Painting this beautiful (and well built) wooden pool room shed is just one of several projects our customer has hired us to do.

It was a good idea to stain this shed as well. It's now stained and sealed and protected from the harsh elements southwestern Ontario endures - especially the hot suns of summer and the bitter cold winters.

We would also like to point out how we admire customers who go around their homes and compile lists of things that need to be done.

Once the list has been compiled, the phone is picked up and the customer dials 226-234-9291 and we simply answer: "Wilson's Handyman Services"?

Here is a sample list for this Handyman:

Painting, weather stripping, caulking, trim and baseboards, bathroom and laundry faucet installations, door handle repair, bi fold closet repairs, bathroom exhaust fan installations, assembling and anchoring book cases, repairing a screen door, dryer vent repairs, TV hook-ups, repairing gate latches, sealing a leaky eaves trough, assembling rocking chairs, building bar-b-q's, installing room organizers, painting a lamp post, painting & installing a screen door, laying indoor/outdoor carpet, repairing a garage door sensor, repairing a shower head, installing a roof top vent.

This is just a fraction of what Wilson's Handyman Services can do for your home!

So the next time you are looking for a handyman, just pick up the phone and call!

We would be more than happy to come out, evaluate your needs, offer a free estimate via email (usually within the same day) and, if you are agreeable with our rates, set a date and a time that is going to work for you and us to begin the work.

Simple and straight forward. No strings. Just honest, reliable work and a friendly smile.

Feel free to fill out a request form on our website at:

Happy New Year!

Happy 2016 all! Glad you made it!

Now that the Christmas rush, the gift buying and giving, the entertaining, the eating and everything in between is over; some of us can kind of relax a little and some of us will hibernate during the cold winter months. But, you have to agree, we've had it pretty good lately with the mildest December on record with only one day in December below zero!

The 'balmy' type weather certainly put people's minds into different perspectives.
I mean people continued to renovate and fix up their homes right up until late December! And why shouldn't they? It is a home that quite often will need a little fixing up here and there - which brings me to this:

Don't stop fixing up your home just because of old man winter on your door step!

There are plenty of things that can be done around the home during the winter months - especially on the interior! And yes, painting or dry walling is one of them!

Changing the way your home looks can also boost one's mood during the winter blahs and help brighten your day!

Wilson's Handyman Services has done extensive painting inside of homes!

From bathrooms to kitchens and from bedrooms to hallways!

What's more is Wilson's Handyman Services uses top quality brushes and paints like Benjamin Moore!

We're also able to pass along our great discount on paint and supplies through Benjamin Moore.

So if you're looking at adding a little color to your winter while saving money, then look no further than Wilson's Handyman Services.

We're a phone call away at 226-234-9291.

Happy New Year!

Good-Bye Summer & Hello Autumn!

10/3/2015

Picture
Well...that was short-lived! Summer I mean. I don't know about you, but it was almost like we really never even had a summer. To me we had a few nice week-ends weather wise, but that was about it.
Hmmm...maybe I was just that busy and believe you me, I was!

From the moment April came aboard the phone, the quotes and the appointments never stopped! We are not complaining however. It's good to be busy and a good feeling being wanted and needed for work!
We're always glad to be able to help others repair or maintain their homes and truly appreciate the calls.

So what sort of work have we been so busy with you might ask?

Interior painting, exterior painting, drywall repairs and installations, eaves trough and downspout clean outs, kitchen and bathroom sink installations, faucet installations, toilet installs and rip outs, vinyl floor installations, laminate floor installs, dead bolt installs, gutter guard installations, exterior lighting, interior lighting, refinishing a wooden threshold, installing a porch swing, insulating & repairing bay (overhang) windows, bathroom and bedroom painting, caulking windows and bath tubs, building and installing pressure treated fencing, painting shutters, installing a shower trap, installing dishwashers, cleaning, stripping & sealing wooden decks, repairing foundation wall cracks, building and repair screen doors and windows, installing curtain rods, mirrors and pictures, repairing/resurfacing a chimney stack, repairing screen door latches, installing pool house doors, mounting TV's on walls, installing entrance locks and handles...I don't think this list will end anytime soon so I'll stop.

Now that Autumn, (more commonly known as Fall) is upon us, people are preparing for many of the chores to get their homes ready for the cooler weather and, of course, inevitably; the winter months that lie ahead.
But just like the spring and summer months there is a ton of stuff to be done in and around the home like insulating, caulking and weather stripping around windows and doors, baseboards, behind electrical wall plates, painting and yes, even decorating. I mean let's face it, the weather changes, we change with it.

So here is to a happy Fall everyone! Hopefully the Super El Nino the weather guys are talking about will bring back summer faster than it left.

Thanks for reading!

Cheers.
